Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional

Equipment

  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts, if using. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the Browkies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares and serve.
