Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray to ensure the bars don't stick.
- In a medium bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until well blended.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat 1 cup of softened butter, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, 3/4 cup of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until creamy. Add 2 large eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir in 2 cups of Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels and, if desired, 1 cup of chopped nuts.
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and the center is set. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
Chef's Tips:
• For a softer texture, slightly underbake the bars and allow them to finish setting while cooling
• Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough bars
• Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat
Food Safety:
• Ensure eggs are fresh and properly stored
• Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness
