Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Green food coloring gel preferred
  • 1/2 cup red heart candies or red M&M's

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Add green food coloring until you reach the desired shade of Grinch green.
  4. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Press a red heart candy into the center of each cookie.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For a softer cookie, slightly underbake and let them cool on the baking sheet longer.
• Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough cookies.
• Serve with hot cocoa for a festive holiday treat.
Food Safety:
• Ensure eggs are fresh and properly stored to avoid foodborne illness.
• Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
