Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour plus more for rolling
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  4. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chef's Tips:
• For a crispier cookie, bake for the full 10 minutes. For a softer cookie, reduce baking time to 8 minutes.
• Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough cookies.
• Serve with a glass of milk or hot cocoa for a classic holiday treat.
Food Safety:
• Ensure eggs are fresh and stored properly to avoid contamination.
• Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
