Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Sifted for best results
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Electric mixer or stand mixer
  • Cookie scoop or spoon
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set this dry mixture aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just incorporated.
  5. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
